Will there be more industrial wind turbines in Freedom?

Hmmmm. The town of Freedom has recently acquired some property on Sanford Hill and is putting it up for auction. It might be good for Freedom residents to know that Sanford Hill is the second highest “mountain” in Freedom, Maine. According to our research Sanford Hill’s elevation is about 262 metres above sea level. (Beaver Ridge’s elevation is about 289 metres above sea level.)

We saw this post located on the Freedom Maine Bicentennial Facebook page:
HUNTER’S PARADISE FOR SALE IN FREEDOM, ME JUNE 15, 2015 181.6 surveyed acres. The property consists of ridgeline and westerly sloping land with elevations as high as 800’. It is entirely wooded, mostly hardwood, including a rare stand of American Chestnut trees. The site is very secluded and is an excellent hunting and recreational opportunity. The lot is town owned and is for sale by sealed bid on June 15, 2015. For more information, and bid information, contact our town office at (207) 382-6177 or visit our website at www.freedomme.org

On a side note: Thank you to the keepers of this Facebook page. It was quite a discovery and I enjoyed taking the time out of my research to browse through all the interesting posts.

What could this mean for Freedom? Sources say that Beaver Ridge Wind is very interested in purchasing this property. My husband and another neighbor mentioned that questions were brought up by representatives of BRW during a selectmen’s meeting they attended one evening about the sale of this property. When the BRW representatives voiced their interest during this meeting they were shutdown by Selectman Ron Price who stated that it wasn’t the time for this type of discussion.

Will there be more industrial wind turbines in Freedom? Rumor has it that BRW has purchased property on the Palermo side of the hill. We haven’t verified this rumor at this time, but several “family” members are looking into it. We’ll let you know what we find.
